Empowerment and Confidence Project

Empowerment and Confidence Building Courses

Reinventing Success successfully applied for an Awards for All England grant for projects that improve communities to deliver Empowerment and Confidence building courses.

Our funding allowed us to run three courses with people from Black and Minority Ethnic communities who are unemployed and/or have mental health difficulties.

The sessions:
Being your own best friend: practical ways to develop skills and confidence to help themselves and others in their communities.
Turn your fear into success: practical problem solving skills and tools to overcome fears and worries.
Steps to a better future: develop CVs, interview skills and ability to communicate effectively at work.
Speaking up with confidence: For those whose first language is not English, helping them recognise their fears and learn to conquer them. This includes improving active listening, empathy and addressing cultural issues in communication.
Use your talents to set up a business: To enable people who are unemployed or living in poverty to identify creative abilities they have which can earn them a income and give them a basic understanding of business planning and social enterprise skills.

Each of the 3 groups worked with had an additional 3 coaching sessions to review the skills learned and develop individual, personal action plans to progress.

We undertook a piece of needs research to identify key concerns, how changes in local services and benefits are affecting people and their aspirations and motivation for gaining skills and work.
